An interactive web-based time-travel story

Groups of 9/10 year olds created an interactive web-based time-travel story. The first page represents a time-machine, leading to branching stories set in different periods. The pupils created their pages using Front Page Express. They began by creating the text and then added the finishing touches: sounds, pictures and page links.

An interactive timeline about Elizabeth I

A class of 12/13 year olds created an interactive web-based time-line about Queen Elizabeth I as part of their history course. The Background section of the site contains a full account of the pupils’ activities and an evaluation of the impact on the pupils. The students used ICT in a wide variety of ways, before spending two lessons creating a set of pages about different aspects of Elizabeth’s reign. They used Microsoft Word to create their pages, saving them as html files, and adding links and pictures.

Compositions electronically based on musical time

14/15 year olds created compositions electronically based on musical time and set up Powerpoint presentations and web pages to display and explain their work. The pupils have asked to use their compositions in their public examinations, and if their work is published online, it cannot be used for the examination! Instead, they have displayed extracts from the compositions together with sound files and a written explanation of their use of ICT. This will accompany the information the pupils have researched and created about the different periods of musical history.

Journey through the Solar System

A class of 7/8 year olds produced a multimedia presentation on the Solar System, using Textease, an educational word processor and multimedia authoring program. The presentation has been converted into web pages so that it can be seen on the worldwide web. The work was carried out in the course of literacy lessons. Each child had to research two planets, using the Yahooligans search engine to find information and pictures from the worldwide web. They used copy and paste to add material to their Textease pages.

The Seven Ages of Man

9-11 year old children in the school computer club worked on The Seven Ages of Man. They used Textease, an educational word processor and multimedia authoring program, to create a presentation and web pages. They used a digital camera and a scanner to create the images for their pages and a microphone and sound recording software to read the original text. They also used a vector drawing program to design the navigation buttons. The pupils in the club spent approximately 10 hours on the project over a ten-week period.
